Naked raku vase

This piece was thrown on a wheel and fired in a raku kiln with copper mesh around it, creating the “scales”. It is unglazed. To create the surface the piece was burnished to create a smooth surface and covered in terra siggilata. This gives it a lustrous appearance and smooth finish. The black was absorbed by the clay from smoke, and the white is the original clay color. The piece has been polished with wax. It is not dish-washer or food-safe. If you plan to place fresh flowers in it be sure to use a glass insert as it may not be water-tight.
